Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you allow visitors?

Due to the large number of Parvo outbreaks among breeders, we are no longer open for visits to the public without an appointment. We kindly ask that you schedule your visit and DO NOT visit any other kennels that day.
Parvo is a deadly disease that can kill a puppy/entire litter within a matter of 24 hours. It is spread by infected dogs and can live for months, even years on surfaces such as concrete and grass. You can come into contact simply by visiting a park or pet store and pick up the disease on the bottom of your shoes and carry it back to our home when you visit. While vaccines are effective, your puppy will not have full immunity until its last set of puppy shots at 16 weeks. There is also a window when the puppy's immunity from mom wears off and they don't have full protection from vaccines.
If you wish to see one of our doodles or learn more about us and how we raise our puppies, please feel free to contact me for references.
We are sorry if this causes any inconvenience, however, because our puppies are sometimes spoken for before they are born, we feel it is our responsibility to our new puppy families to keep their puppy safe and healthy here at Elk Prairie Doodles during their first 8 weeks.

2. Why a Goldendoodle?

Goldendoodles are an intelligient and obedient family companion. They are eager to please and very devoted to their family. They are very social and love to be with people. Their intelligence, eagerness to learn, and devotion make them highly trainable! They are generally medium-large sized family dogs with easy dispositions. They are very low shedding to virtually non shedding dogs that are obviously allergy-friendly. They also make great assistant or therapy dogs.

3. What are the advantages of hybrid vigor?

As a hybrid cross, goldendoodles grow healthier and live longer than either parent line. The only genetic diseases they can be prone to are those shared by both the Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle.

4. What is the difference between an F1 and F1B Goldendoodle?

The first generation (F1) Goldendoodle was the first to be bred and introduced. It is a product of a Standard Poodle crossed with a Golden Retriever. F1 Goldendoodles are most compatible with families that have mild allergies.
The second generation or "backcrossed" (F1B) Goldendoodle is a product of a F1 Goldendoodle crossed with a Standard Poodle. F1B's tend to have a higher success rate for non-shedding and are recommended to families with moderate to severe allergies.
